Easy DIY Photo/Memo Board

Hi guys :)
Today I made a photo memo board, it was so easy and took less than half an hour to make! You could totally customize it with different fabrics and ribbons. You could glue buttons onto the thumbtacks or sew buttons directly on. Another great idea is to use elastic instead of ribbon. This could allow you to add more things onto your board, such as study notes or little nick nacks.

Materials:

  • Canvas (I got mine from the Warehouse for $5.60)
  • Ribbon of your choice
  • Gold thumb tacks
  • Hot glue gun and glue
  • Tacky glue or PVA
  • Stuffing - or batting is better
  • Fabric of your choice larger than your canvas

Method:
  1. Use your PVA or tacky glue and apply glue to the edges of the face of the canvas. This comes in handy when you are using stuffing to keep the edges from bunching in the middle.
  2. Next 'rip' your stuffing up and place onto your canvas. Make sure you do a couple of layers stuffing as it will become flatter when you stretch the fabric over it.
  3. Place your fabric over the top of your stuffing and canvas. Stretch your fabric over the edge onto the back side of your canvas and use a thumbtack to secure onto the wooden frame. Do this to the opposite sides first making sure that you're pulling really tight, and repeat to all edges. You don't need to use too many thumbtacks as you will be securing it better later - I only used 2 on each edge.
  4. Secure the edges of your fabric at the back with another thumbtack. This is when you start to see the shape of your board.
  5. Glue the flaps of fabric between the thumbtacks at the back of your board down with hot glue. Pull tight!
  6. Cut strips of ribbon to create the template of the 'web' in which your photos or notes will be tucked under.
  7. Apply a dab of hot glue to the ends of your ribbon and carefully attach to the back of your canvas. Make sure you're pulling the ribbon tight.
  8. Add a dab of hot glue onto the intersections of ribbon.
  9. Press your thumbtack into the hot glue at the intersections and though the ribbon and fabric.

Ta-da! That is it. I really enjoyed making this photo board, and although the method seems long, it's more or less just common sense. So give it a try :)

Bye for now,
